Introducing the Yuneec E-GO 2 Electric Skateboard

Popularized by high-performance models like the Boosted , the electric skateboard is increasingly establishing itself as an urban mobility solution. By combining the fun side of traditional skateboarding and the practicality of an electric machine, the offer is multiplying on this market.

On the other hand, it is difficult to navigate between high-end electric skateboards and the first price. Today our choice is a robust and affordable model , the Yuneec E-GO 2 .

Yuneec, which is a widely recognized manufacturer for its Typhoon line of drones, has been in the skateboard market for several years. Their latest model is the E-GO 2 which has the advantage of costing less than €700 and benefiting from very good technical specifications .

In this article, we will study and detail the performance of the E-GO 2 to see what it is all about.

The structure of the board

With a weight of only 6.3 kg , the deck of the Yuneec E-GO 2 electric skateboard is made of 8 layers of Canadian composite maple . Just under these 8 layers we find the motherboard which is very thin as well as the barely noticeable battery. In terms of style, the rendering is so qualitative that a passerby will believe that you are riding a classic skateboard.

On the underside of the board, Yuneec has added a protective layer of carbon fiber to improve the resistance of the board. Thus the underside is protected against scratches that could occur during use on damaged roads.

Finally, the top of the deck is covered with a layer of non-slip adhesive tape adorned with the Yuneec logo. With this layer, the user has a perfect grip on the board and can then ride at full speed.

The Yuneec E-GO 2 remote control

An important point for a good driving feeling on an electric skateboard is the quality of the remote control. That of the E-GO 2 fits perfectly in the palm of the hand and comes with a strap to hang it on the wrist.

It connects to the skateboard via Bluetooth and is very easy to use. Just turn on the board, turn on the remote control and that's it! No pairing is required .

This small wireless remote weighs less than 60 grams and is one size smaller than a smartphone. You simply manage the acceleration of the skate with the remote control by pushing the central button up and down .

In addition, it lets you know how much battery is left in the skate using 3 flashing lights. 4 blue flashes means the skateboard is charged and 4 green flashes means the remote is full .

When there is only 1 light of each color left, we know that the board and the remote control are almost flat. Indeed, each flash indicates that 25% charge on the battery. Finally, the red LED lights up when the battery is discharged or while charging.

The remote control can be charged via USB and from a USB port on the battery side of the E-GO 2. The remote control of the Yuneec EGO-2 electric skateboard also allows you to change the operating mode of the board.

There is a Sport mode with a maximum speed of 20 km/h and faster acceleration and an Eco mode which offers a maximum speed of 12 km/h . The latter provides slower acceleration and longer range.

Finally, if you are not a fan of wireless remote controls, Yuneec also offers management using the smartphone for control via Bluetooth. An application exists and includes all the features of the wireless remote control.

Autonomy of the Yuneec E-GO 2 Electric Skateboard

The E-GO 2 offers a range of 22km to 25km on a single charge . This is the theoretical autonomy and it is not necessarily achievable if you are in sport mode and often at full speed.

If you use the Yuneec on flat ground and in Eco mode, then you can reach 25 km without too much trouble. But in reality you will often tend to accelerate on straight lines so the range of the machine is more around 20 km.

This level of autonomy places the E-GO 2 skateboard in the high average of electric skateboards in the same range . So it's a good result and Yuneec did a pretty good job on that side. The board has an energy recovery system during braking which should certainly help to achieve this performance.

However, the charging time is quite long. For a full charge it takes 3 to 4 hours so it is better to let it charge overnight for daytime use.

But what is very practical is that the Yuneec E-GO 2 uses a standard mini USB charging port, the same type that is generally used to charge phones. This means that you can charge the remote control or even your smartphone directly from your skateboard battery.

Acceleration and Braking

In terms of speed, the Yuneec skateboard averages around 20 km/h . You should know that there are much faster boards. So if you're looking for pure speed this might not be the board for you.

That being said, after having tested the E-GO2 at this speed and without being skate experts at the base, we believe that 20 km/h is already quite enough! Indeed, the feeling of speed on an electric skateboard is very lively and the advantage here is that the board remains very stable. It is therefore a very pleasant electric vehicle to drive .

In terms of braking, we were also pleasantly surprised by the Yuneec E-Go 2. Just activate the button on the remote control and the board begins to brake according to the mode you have chosen. Sport mode gives you boosts in speed and braking while eco mode is more progressive.

The battery of the Yuneec E-GO 2 Electric Skateboard

The battery is located under the board on the left of the box. Yuneec offers a specially patented flexible battery box that allows it to become one with the board.

When we tested the board, the deck felt semi-stiff and didn't flex all that much with pressure.

But overall the feeling is very good and you don't really feel the case during wrinkles.

Conclusion of the Yuneec E-GO 2 Electric Skateboard Review

To conclude, we really enjoyed testing this Yuneec E-GO 2 skateboard. It offers a very good compromise between performance and price and that's really what's interesting.

Its 400W Brushless DC motor might not make it the fastest board but it is stable. In addition, it has a very good autonomy thanks to its 2000 mAh lithium-ion battery . With the E-GO 2 you can experience very good driving sensations at a speed of 20 km/h.

When you know that an Inboard or Boosted skate costs almost $1500, the 650-700 € of the Yuneec EGO-2 immediately make you think!
