After the dazzling success of the M365, it was time for Xiaomi to launch a new, more successful model. Called Xiaomi M365 Pro, the newcomer was officially unveiled in February 2019.
It is positioned as a mid-range urban scooter and therefore targets the same users of the previous version.
In this Xiaomi M365 Pro electric scooter review, we will take a detailed look at all the features of Xiaomi's new scooter.
Presentation of the Xiaomi M365 Pro Electric Scooter
Let's start our test of the Xiaomi M365 Pro (MJ1048) electric scooter with a little presentation. As its name suggests, the new scooter is just an evolved version of the Xiaomi M365 .
Developed jointly by Xiaomi and Ninebot , it is delivered assembled and folded in a cardboard box measuring 111 cm long, 15 cm wide, and 51 cm high.
To start using it, simply unfold it and mount the handlebars. Besides the scooter, the packaging box also includes the following items:
- An electric charger.
- A “T” shaped hex wrench.
- 5 fixing screws (Allen).
- An adapter for inflating tires.
- A user manual.
- Two additional tires (only for European version).
In the unfolded position, the Xiaomi M365 Pro measures 113 cm long, 43 cm wide, and 118 cm high. In the folded position, it measures 113 cm long, 43 cm wide, and 49 cm high.
Despite a weight of 14.2 kg (around 2 kg more than the basic version), it is compact and can be transported easily.
Design and structure of the Xiaomi Pro Scooter
At first glance, the Xiaomi M365 Pro has the same exterior design of the previous model. An elegant and futuristic design which won two prestigious awards in 2017: the “Red Dot Award” (Best of the Best) and the “iF Design Award”.
Visually, the newcomer is recognizable by its circular decorative strip on the front wheel which distinguishes it from the M365 and gives it an original appearance.
That said, it has almost the same structure as the previous model. An aircraft-grade aluminum frame, column, handlebars, wide deck, and two large wheels.
More robust, the Xiaomi M365 Pro can support a weight of 120 kg (compared to 100 kg for the previous model).
The new equipment of the Xiaomi Pro Electric Scooter
Generally, the new scooter uses the same minimalist stylistic design of the previous version. The list of basic equipment includes an LED headlight, a brake light, a small bell, and a parking jack.
The folding mechanism is identical to that of the previous model and allows the scooter to be folded and unfolded in less than three seconds.
New LCD screen
Digital evolution requires, the new Xiaomi scooter is equipped with a very ergonomic LCD display screen. Placed in the middle of the handlebars, it replaces the four LED indicators showing only the battery level on the previous model.
The new LCD screen is a real dashboard. It allows you to display not only the battery level, but also all other driving information: speed, range, selected driving mode, etc.
Xiaomi mobile application
With the dedicated mobile application (Xiaomi Mijia or Ninebot) or the Bluetooth function, you can view all driving information on your smartphone or tablet. You can also view statistics, adjust acceleration and braking settings, activate cruise control, update the scooter's software, etc.
Another interesting feature is that you can lock the front wheel from your smartphone to prevent another person from using the scooter in your absence.
M365 Pro motor
As expected, the new M365 Pro version benefits from a more powerful brushless electric motor than the one fitted to the basic version. Integrated into the front wheel, this motor delivers maximum power of 600 W. Thanks to this increased power, the scooter can now overcome slopes of 20%.
Like the base model, the maximum speed is limited to 25 km/h. Another new feature, the M365 Pro offers 3 driving modes: economic (Eco), Drive (D), and Sport (S).
Autonomy of the Xiaomi M365 Pro electric scooter
One of the big new features that we were able to discover during this Xiaomi M365 Pro electric scooter test is the increased autonomy of the vehicle. Thanks to a new Li-ion battery with a capacity of 474 Wh (supplied by LG), the M365 Pro promises a range of 45 km, or 15 km more than the previous model.
With this level of autonomy, it is possible to travel a Paris-Melun or Paris-Évry journey on a single charge!
Note that the battery is non-removable. It is integrated into the deck, which lowers the center of gravity of the scooter and subsequently improves maneuverability on the road.
For a full charge, you should still allow 8 to 9 hours with a standard charger and 4 to 5 hours with a fast charger. Note that all electrical components of the Xiaomi M365 Pro are waterproof and dustproof (IP54 protection rating).
Wheels, suspension, and braking system
Like the Xiaomi M365, the Pro version is equipped with 8.5-inch wheels with tube tires . Certainly, solid rubber wheels (like those fitted to the Ninebot ES2 ) provide better protection against the risk of punctures.
However, tube tires provide a more comfortable ride and absorb road shock better. However, we would have preferred tubeless tires which are more robust and more resistant to punctures.
On the suspension side, driving comfort is essential, even if the M365 Pro is not equipped with shock absorbers.
Being an urban scooter, the wheels absorb a large part of the irregularities of the road surface and therefore ensure a comfortable ride.
Xiaomi Pro braking
Braking is provided by two separate systems:
- A disc brake system.
- An electromagnetic braking system with E-ABS anti-lock function integrated into the front wheel.
Compared to the basic version, safety has been improved by the addition of a second brake disc at the rear. Likewise, the dimensions of the discs have been increased (120 mm in diameter compared to 110 for the basic version).
The Xiaomi M365 Pro is also equipped with a kinetic energy recovery system when braking (KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System ) and cruise control.
When you release the throttle trigger, the front wheel brakes slowly and the energy generated by the KERS system is fed back into the battery. As for the hydraulic braking system, it is activated with the brake trigger located on the left part of the handlebars.
The strong points of the Xiaomi M365 Pro electric scooter
- Better autonomy compared to the basic version.
- More powerful engine.
- New ergonomic LCD display screen.
- Efficient braking system.
- Excellent value for money.
The weak points of the Xiaomi M365 Pro
- Relatively heavier than the basic version.
- Risk of puncture (tube tire).
- Loading time a little long.
Verdict: our opinion on the Xiaomi M365 Pro Electric Scooter
To conclude this Xiaomi M365 Pro Electric Scooter test, the newcomer displays a very elegant design. The aluminum frame and materials used for the deck are very reliable and inspire confidence. Aside from a few small details, the build quality is also very good.
As expected, Xiaomi's new scooter is equipped with a powerful motor and a high-performance battery. The folding system is easy to use and allows the scooter to be folded and unfolded in less than three seconds.
The new LCD screen is ergonomic and displays all driving information. We would have liked tubeless tires instead of inner tube tires. That said, we understand that the manufacturer wanted to reduce manufacturing costs to offer a scooter that was reliable, efficient and affordable.
Obviously, the Xiaomi M365 Pro is the ideal choice for urban use. It seduces not only with its sleek style and its practicality, but also with its excellent quality/price ratio, making it one of the best mid-range scooters.
